FAQs
Does acupuncture hurt?
Since there is a fine needle inserted, there is usually a mild sensation during insertion. The needles should not be painful. Having some sensation while the needle is inserted (called de Qi) is a good thing. It means energy and blood are flowing better through the area. Some people describe the sensation as heavy, tingling or like an itchy sensation.
What should I wear for my treatments?
Wearing loose comfortable clothing is ideal because most needles are inserted in the arms from the elbow down, the legs from the knees down or the head. When people come from work or shopping so they may bring a change of clothes, or they remove their top &/or pants while partitioner is out of the room and go underneath the blanket on the table.
What if I get very cold during treatments?
I have a bed warmer on the table and I have an infrared light that I can place on feet, abdomen or back for comfort or as part of the treatment.
Do insurance benefits cover acupuncture?
Many companies cover acupuncture, but each plan is different so please check yours before your appointment. Be sure to read the fine print as some have special requirements for it to be covered. Acupunctures isn’t a one and done kind of treatment, as it takes time to retrain the body to function properly. If you have minimal coverage, it can be helpful to only hand in every 2nd or 3rd treatment receipt to help space out financing your healing journey.
How many treatments are needed?
This depends a lot on how severe and chronic the issue is. The more chronic, the longer it usually takes to improve. A more acute issue may only take 4-10 treatments. A major chronic issue may take 30 treatments to reach the desired outcome. Everyone’s bodies are unique, and it can very from person to person.
The key is to be consistent with treatments. The closer the treatments are the faster you will see results as well.
